What to Expect
Your first visit is designed to be clear, unhurried, and comfortable.
Before your appointment
-
You’ll complete a brief intake form to share your health history and what’s bringing you in.
-
Plan to eat at least 3 hours before your appointment so your body has enough energy for treatment.
-
Please review the cancellation policy before booking.
At the start of your visit
-
We’ll spend time talking through your concerns, goals, and any questions you may have.
-
A full intake includes conversation, along with pulse and tongue assessment, which are common ways of gathering information in Chinese Medicine.
Treatment
-
Once you’re settled on the heated treatment table, acupuncture needles are placed based on your individual presentation.
-
If you’re new to acupuncture, treatment will begin with a small number of needles to understand how your body responds.
Rest time
-
You’ll rest quietly with the needles in place for 30–45 minutes, allowing your body to settle.
-
Some people fall asleep, while others simply rest or meditate.
-
If you feel anxious being left alone, let me know so we can adjust the experience together.
Closing and check-in
-
After the needles are removed, we’ll check in briefly before you head out.
-
You’ll leave with any recommendations discussed, along with a general treatment plan including suggested frequency and number of visits.
After your appointment
-
Plan for a quieter day.
-
Avoid vigorous exercise and focus on gentle movement like walking, stretching, or light yoga. Drink water and eat well to support your body’s response to treatment.
Follow-up treatments
-
Changes from your initial treatment may last 1–3 days.
-
Some people feel noticeable shifts right away, while others feel very little at first. Both responses are normal, and your experience will guide future treatments.
-
Herbs and supplements are typically not introduced at the first visit. I take a gradual approach, allowing time to understand what your body needs before adding additional therapies.
